Since May 2014, Alfons Gerlach, born in 1938, has a brother again. Till then he had been living without any single trace of his originally extended family. He last had contact with them at the Catholic orphanage in Augsburg where all twelve brothers and sisters had been taken in 1939. About 1950, his brother Willi, who was only one year older, went to live in foster families, while Alfons stayed at the orphanage; so these two brothers finally lost sight of each other as well. The family reunion after more than 60 years became possible thanks to a search for family members in the archives of the International Tracing Service (ITS).

In voormalig kamp Amersfoort is een monument onthuld voor de Nederlanders die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog mensen lieten onderduiken. Het monument is volgens de initiatiefnemers een eerbetoon aan deze schuilplaatsverleners die hun eigen leven en dat van hun gezin riskeerden om anderen te redden uit handen van de nazi's.

Rachel Yehuda, a researcher in the growing field of epigenetics and the intergenerational effects of trauma, and her colleagues have long studied mass trauma survivors and their offspring. Their latest results reveal that descendants of people who survived the Holocaust have different stress hormone profiles than their peers, perhaps predisposing them to anxiety disorders.
